Imi Maufe
Imi Maufe discovered book arts as an exchange student at Louisiana State University in 1999. She graduated with a MA in Multi-disciplinary Printmaking at the University of the West of England, Bristol in 2004. Maufe has works in collections such as the V&A, Tate Library Collection and university librarys in USA, UK and Norway. Maufe set up a bookarts group in Bergen, Norway in 2013, and through this has organised exhibitions including Norske bøker – a travelling collection of Norwegian books, and a group workshop and exhibition called Smak av Bok – taste of books. Maufe has participated in many book art fairs and since 2009 has been based at the artist-run studios Bergen Ateliergruppe in Bergen harbour.

This residency, called LK243 Undersail, took place onboard the Swan, and was a voyage from Ireland to Sweden via Shetland. After the voyage I produced a boxed work of prints, books and a film. This project lead to an invitation to curate, with Rona Rangsch, an exhibition at Künstlerhaus Dortmund called Voyage: sea journeys, island hopping and trans-oceanic concepts. To continue the exhibition in a different format, and one that could travel, we invited 18 Voyage artists to contribute artworks, prints and books that fit into a 15 x 15 cm box called Voyage Boxed.
My proposal is to talk about books about journeys – focusing on LK 243 Undersail and Voyage Boxed. Examples of the works will be used during the presentation.
